what art represents, meaning, inspiration

Being alone to find out what it is that you really want

I Begin Again

I begin again.

As a mature artist (not giving out my age or calling myself old) I have decided to spend my retirement doing something that I have loved all my life and had little time to pursue.  I’ve moved a few times in the last two years, and now I am finally settled.  I have a smaller than I want studio, but what artist doesn’t want more space?

As I begin again, I thought of how I got here.  The answer is determination.  Everyone knows that life is busy enough or too busy.  But, how do we get where we want to go and how do we know where we want to go?

Inside.  The answer to one of the questions is inside you.  Unfortunately, my world, and maybe yours is so busy with so many distractions that I cannot see where to go.  Hmmm, what can I do about that?

I can take time to slow down.  When you become older, it seems you have more opportunities to slow down, but I believe no matter what your age you can control that part of your life.  More about that in future blogs.

In slowing down, I can ‘see’ what I want.  I’m the kind of person that loves almost all things and so it was a little cloudy for me to find exactly where I wanted to go, besides learning art and trying to paint pretty pictures.

Then, when what I wanted to do was firm in my mind, I added lots of determination.  Some days I wanted to sit and play cards with my friends, but that didn’t get my website created or my completed paintings categorized.

With determination, comes stubbornness.  I have a dose of that in my character.  I could sit in meditation for an hour or two, fighting the thoughts and the resolve to not open my eyes.

I have now a firmness of purpose.  With that has come excitement.  I have decided each day to put one foot in front of the other (decision) and continue down this path I have created (goal).

You can do the same.  It doesn’t have to be about art for you.  Become quiet and see what you want. Become stubborn, determined, endure, and you will get there. Be proud and kind to yourself.

Each day is a new beginning to begin again.
