I'm Never Going to be a Rock Star
They say that 70 is the new 40. I might agree, sometimes this body and mind feels like it is 39.
Since we have been ‘in covid’ I have studied a lot of artists, painting methods, reading art history and art books, listening and watching demos. Sometimes it is overwhelming. There is so much out there to consume.
Last week I listened to a seasoned artist tell me how to be accepted by a gallery, and the quality of work I would need to produce.
I do have it in me. I thought that I could produce that quality of work if I chose to, but is that really what I want? I wonder how much time that would take?
I am supposed to be retired. I feel like the young adult that is thinking about their career, and trying to figure out what to do next. Where do I take my next step?
One lady reported that you need to go around and visit galleries, and if you do that for about five years, you can be accepted and hang your paintings in the gallery. I don’t think I have enough energy in me to do that part, and so my ‘new 40’s’ haven’t kicked in yet.
I have thought about it, there are so many awesome artists. I am amazed at their creativity, blending of the skin tone, attention to detail and design. I don’t’ think I will ever be a rock star.
Then I ponder you, ‘my fans’.
With a smile on my heart I think of all your kind souls that have said very nice things about my posts and like my work. Especially after the recent Artist Challenge on Facebook that I participated in. I felt like a rock star!
In my studio a sign says “My life is a fairy tale and I am a Queen”.
In my studio, I AM the Queen. I am always alone in my castle playing with my colors, canvas and enjoying my process.
Hmmm, maybe if I am the Queen, I can also be the Rock Star!
My walls are the Gallery and you are the art appreciator.
Art exists not only for the artist’s sake, but for the appreciator too.
